#24: Please Stop Trying To Be Perfect! By Rob Smith

K.I.S.S. (Keep It Short and Simple) #24: Please Stop Trying To Be Perfect!
"The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Italian Proverb, quoted by Voltaire.
I'm writing this K.I.S.S. on the fly as I'm about to go out and get some things done before it rains, so please don't mind any typos! And, since I am following the intent of the quote above, I won't mind them either!
The KEY to spiritual growth, or at least one of them, is to be, as I have said many times, 'persistent and consistent' with your practices (meditation, tapping, R&R, noticing, reading spiritual writings, etc.). And the thought occurred to me today that the key to doing THAT is to 'not mind' if you are not 'perfect' at these practices!
The reason for this is that NO ONE on this planet (or at least no one I have ever met) is perfect, nor will ever be, at least in terms of their 'human self/ego.' Your Spirit (Soul, Higher Self, etc.) IS perfect, but that's a subject for another KISS. So, I encourage everyone to do some 'contemplative meditation' (which is where you think about the meaning of something) on the idea of 'perfectionism.' If you do this, hopefully you'll realize that since being perfect (humanly) is literally impossible, you'll just stop trying to be! And I'm very glad to mention that a number of you do get this, and have posted about it.
So, what does all this have to do with the Italian proverb I quoted above? EVERYTHING! IF you get discouraged because you 'think' (humanly) that you are not doing your spiritual practices perfectly, or even 'well enough,' you'll be tempted (by your ego) to stop doing them entirely! 😲 And this would be unfortunate, to put it mildly.
But once you REALIZE (not just understand intellectually) how silly it is to be concerned with doing your spiritual practices (whatever they may be) 'perfectly,' then you'll 'get' that 'just doing them' is WAY more important than 'trying to do them perfectly' - because it is in the 'trying' that we often go astray. I'm not saying to not do the best you can, because that is a good thing, especially in the spiritual realm. What I AM saying is to NOT worry about whether your meditations are going the way you (your human mind) think they should be going, or worrying because you forgot to do R&R or tap when you got upset about something, I'm sure you can come up with other
examples!
So PLEASE don't let 'perfectionism' be the 'enemy' of your spiritual practices, just do the best you can, and then.....FUHGETABOUTIT! :~)
